Whitening

Teeth will naturally discolor with time due to age or exposure to certain substances like coffee, wine, and tea. If you are unhappy with the color of your teeth, whitening is an option that can be used to brighten your smile.

Whitening can be accomplished in a variety of ways. Here at RMDA, we offer in-office whitening, at home whitening with whitening trays, or a combination or both.

The in office whitening procedure consists of isolation of the teeth and your gums and then a whitening gel is placed on the teeth for approximately 20 minutes. During that time, you must remain in the dental chair and hold very still while the gel penetrates the stains of the tooth. After 20 minutes have passed, the gel is removed from your teeth and another round of gel is placed. Typically, three rounds of whitening gel are placed on the teeth during your in-office whitening visit. After the visit is complete, it is normal to experience some sensitivity, irritation or soreness, which will dissipate over time.  Whitening at home with custom made whitening trays and whitening gel will help further brighten your smile and will also be used to maintain the brighter color of your teeth. Your dentist will review whitening maintenance recommendations with you at the end of your appointment.

The at home whitening procedure consists of a mold or scan that is taken of teeth. The mold or scan is used to make a custom tray to hold the whitening gel against your teeth. These trays are yours to keep and can be used whenever you’d like to whiten your teeth.

Before whitening your teeth, brush and floss to clean your teeth and remove all plaque. A pea sized amount of gel is placed in each tooth location and the trays and inserted into your mouth. Your dentist will give you instructions on how long to wear the trays with the gel.

Soon you will notice a brighter, whiter and more attractive smile!

Veneers

Veneers are dental restorations that are designed to cover the front surface of the tooth and are typically used to improve the appearance of a patient’s smile. Veneers typically require several appointments to complete.

Before veneers are placed, we will take a mold or scan of your teeth which will be used by the dental lab and Dr. Blomquist to design and plan your veneers. This model will also be used to make the temporary veneers while the final restorations are fabricated. Your next visit consists of  preparing the teeth for veneers. Another impression or scan is taken once the teeth are prepared and is sent to the lab. Temporary veneers are placed on the teeth until the final veneers are ready. At the final appointment, the temporary veneers are removed and the final veneers fitted, adjusted, and bonded into place. Your smile is now restored to a beautiful form and function.

Bonding

When a front tooth has been damaged by trauma or wear that occurs over time, it can sometimes be restored with “bonding”. “Bonding” is basically placing a cosmetic, tooth colored filling to restore the tooth to an adequate shape and function. This is mostly done on front teeth and consists of layering different shades of filling material to achieve optimal esthetics.

Full Mouth Reconstruction

Full Mouth Reconstruction involves rebuilding and/or replacing all of the teeth in a patient’s mouth and combines esthetics with the science of restorative dentistry to improve the health, function, and beauty of the mouth.

Patient’s who have complex dental problems throughout their mouths must be treated comprehensively with a vision of a final result that improves both function and esthetics. These patients may exhibit multiple missing teeth, numerous teeth with large fillings that are failing or exhibiting decay, cracked or broken teeth, or badly worn teeth due to bruxism (teeth grinding) or other habits. Other patients may have genetic anomalies of their teeth and require extensive restoration of their teeth to achieve adequate function and esthetics.

The first step of a full mouth reconstruction is contacting your dentist for a consultation. At this appointment, we will take radiographs, photographs, gather information about your gum health, examine your teeth, bite and esthetics. We will also take models or scan your teeth. After all of this information has been gathered, you will come in for another appointment to discuss treatment options with Dr. Blomquist.

Whether your goal is to replace missing teeth or restore decayed or worn teeth, Dr. Blomquist will create a personalized treatment plan to achieve your smile goals. The duration and extent of your reconstruction will depend on the condition of your teeth and the amount of treatment involved.
